* The UCL Department of Physics and Astronomy launched its popular and successful Undergraduate Diploma in Astronomy in 2001. However, it no longer satisfies new UK and European rules for HE awards. From 2006 it has been replaced by the Certificate in Astronomy, which fully satisfies these rules and has complete transferability as equivalent to the first year of a degree course.
